The recent increase in delays in sea freight shipments and the blockage of critical shipping lanes by the actions of Houthi rebels are having a major impact on coffee around the world. Commercial ships are following alternative routes, which make transporting coffee more expensive. Trade disruptions have caused premium robusta futures prices to rise more than 30%. This comes on top of a 2023 coffee bean shortage. Dry weather conditions in Vietnam (accounting for 40% of global robusta bean production) pushed prices up 60%. <\/div>\n
